LIFE WORTH LIVING

By : caleb machogu

A Restless World.

This world is a restless place. We see people dashing about trying to find meaning in activity. Many dedicate themselves to gather riches.Others want all the pleasure of the sensual life.Still others want more leisure and arrange to work less and play more.Yet their spirits are not satisfied. Gadgets, pleasures and possessions eventually lose its appeal.Something seems to be missing.
We all have our share of disappointments.Physical defects limit our activities.Family members need constant care.We feel trapped in a job or vocation because we lack expertise to take up other work.We spend money and go into dept hoping the next purchase will make life more tolerable. Our marriage has not proved to be what we had hoped. In vain we look for fulfillment and purpose.
Is that all there is to life?Should there not be something meaningful to give us satisfaction, something more permanent?Surely, there is a solution.

While we are young we see life extending for years. As we get older, time seems to speed up.We can’t accomplish what we had hoped for earlier.

IT REALLY HURTS.

By Sir Joshua Allan

Men always try their best  to make ends meet and to make women happy. It’s unfortunate that some women take advantage of that and manipulate them.

Save the boy child from financial constrains. You want to meet your man in town from Namanjalala and you demand for 2000 fare. Like seriously? He keeps on asking where you have reached and you update him, only to switch off your phone at the end of the day, saa hizo maybe he  took a loan to entertain you then you misbehave. Aiii.Save the boy child from disappointment.

Save the boy child from confusion. He’s so serious with you, he has even introduced you to his family, then it happens that you still want to enjoy life. He think that you love him alone, kumbe he’s number five in the chain of your men. With all the sacrifices he has made to show you  that he love you? Please Save the boy child from heartbreak.

Save the boy child from unreasonable responsibility. You are pregnant and you know well that he’s not the father of your child, but you insist that he’s the one responsible for the pregnancy. As time goes by,you realise that you are three dads to the same baby. Save the boy child from lies.

Save the boy child from dangerous secrets.

Avoid keeping sensitive things from him if you know that he takes you serious. You tell him that you don’t have a child only to find out later the day he goes to pay your dowry. Why don’t you  tell him the truth, whether you are single, separated, divorced or widowed. Save him from heartbreak of knowing the truth later.

Save the boy child from mind games and torture. Don’t let him support you, pay your fees,  pay your bills then vanish in thin air after you have got what you were looking for. Just don’t let him  commit himself to you if you know that you don’t love him. It hurts.

Save the boy child from screenshot. He came to you with one heart, pouring all his heart desires to you, only to parade him everywhere. Sad. Save the boy child.

CO- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATION

By : Sam Juma

DEFINITION OF CO- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
According to the Glossary of education Reform online Resources, (2014) , co- curricular activities are programs  and learning experiences that compliment, in some way what students are learning in school i.e. experiences that are connected to or mirror the academic curriculum. Co – curricular activities are not extra-curricular activities, even though there are some avenues that allow for the terms to be used interchangeably.

Examples of co- curricular activities:
OUTDOOR C.A
Trips
Basketball
Gardening
Photography
Cycling

INDOOR C.A
Dramatics
Music dance
First Aid
Art and craft
Drawing etc.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CO- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATION
As defined, co- curricular activities are just but a practical experience of what is taught in the classroom setting. So this is more of implementing what is taught.
The relationship with education comes in, in that, a theoretical knowledge gets an opportunity to be strengthened when a RELEVANT co – curricular activity is organized, related to the content taught in the classroom.

BENEFITS OF CO- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN EDUCATION

Guide students on how to organize and present activity, develop skills for the same and coordinate different situations. For example, through activities like sports and drama, students are able to organize and present their work and coordinate themselves too. Here they are able to develop skills to also better themselves.

Activities like games and sports help a student to be fit and energetic to a student and this relaxes the mind, and boosts concentration. This is also through physical education, and improves performance in class.

Activities like games, debates, music, drama, help in achieving the overall function of education, which includes having to research, think critically, and then practical participation.

Co-curricular and extracurricular activities can lead to identification of talent and potential and this can later earn one partnership in a specific area of career and hence benefit someone even financially in the future.

ROLE OF THE TEACHER IN ORGANISING CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
A teacher must be a good planner so that this activities can be carried out throughout the year by the students.

A teacher must also be competent enough to ensure that the activities are relevant to the learning program. E.g. a home science class on first aid will be effective if on one occasion the practical part is done outside in groups, rather than a biology class on diseases.

A teacher should be a good observer of the students’ mental, physical or psychological conditions in a class, so as to come up with an activity that will boost their learning.

A teacher should also follow up, supervise and correct, basing himself or herself on the biblical aspects.

RECOMMENDATION
From the Contemporary books and poetry for the independent reader, there is a famous saying by James Howell (1659), “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Meaning that it is not good to work all the time and people get bored if they don’t get some time off work. Anytime one engages in all classwork without doing any activity outside of it, one’s concentration can actually be ruined due to monotony and one can lose concentration.
Therefore I recommend that as training teachers, we should lead by example and participate in co-curricular activities and hence be good influence later to our students as it is beneficial in education. As teachers it is important to not only involve our students in class activities but also engage them in activities that grow and supplement the academic work.  The government to come up with permanent policies that support these activities in learning institutions. The government should not just be on the forefront to support education institutions with books, but also encourage participation in other activities like games and sports, and encourage talents like through music festivals,

CONCLUSION
Co- curricular activities, in conjunction with extra-curricular activities come a long way in promoting a healthy nature for a learner ,since the learner not only improves intellectually in class but also aesthetically, spiritually, physically and even psychologically.  I pose a challenge to everyone in class to engage in at least two co-curricular activities for starters, and using a personal graph evaluate the improvement aspects to your classroom abilities.

I’M QUITTING FACEBOOK.SO KILL ME.

By : Evah Nalainya

I’m finding anonymity liberating.Despite the secrecy of my identity,it let’s me be more honest than Facebook ever could.I decided last night that I had become a cartoon on myself,a dishonest version in front of the people closest to me.No one has spotted the lies, because everyone does the same thing and a silent agreement has been reached.

I see people, baking cakes more elaborate than Disneyland. They can’t cook I know for a fact that the nearest they get to an oven is in a car at a drive through.

I’m not doing it anymore,it depresses me as I list the things I haven’t really done, don’t want to do and would probably kill myself if I did.Facebook has become the plastic surgery unit of the social network hospital.

I’m happy with who I am, thank you very much.Which is why I quit.
